Our School's Vision

 

Our vision at Dolores Huerta Elementary School is to develop scholars, leaders, and proactive citizens who relentlessly strive for personal excellence.

About Our School

Dolores Huerta Elementary School is one of 18 schools in the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools' network. The school joined the Partnership in 2010.

  • How many students are enrolled at DHES?

    • 408 students are enrolled 

  • What are some school demographics?

    • 50% are English Language Learners

    • 97.5% of students are Latino/a/x

    • 1.5% of students are African American

    • Grade levels: TK-5

    • Located in South LA

  • SBAC results:

    • Over the last three years, the school has seen a 10% (percentage point) growth in students meeting or exceeding standards in ELA and a 4% point growth in Math.

  • What kind of programs does the school offer its students?

    • The LEGO Robotics Club introduces students to the engineering, robotics, and coding process in conjunction with the roll out of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Students are super excited about and engaged with the lessons, and have even built robot cars. The intention is to have students participate in the First LEGO League competitions or competitions put on by the district.

    • Through the Huerta Engineering Club, students have the opportunity to connect their learning to real-world problems. Students are engaged in coding and engineering projects.

  • Restorative justice work being led at Dolores Huerta ES has enabled school staff to deepen their bonds with each other. The school engages in restorative communities seminars, implement impactful activities for teachers and students, and integrate opportunities to cultivate social emotional learning like relationship-building and growth mindset activities. 

  • The school has more than 10 community-based partners that focus on academics and social-emotional learning.
